Bethany
Fellowship Trust is one of the organisation that have undertaken relief
work at Nagapattinam. Bethany Fellowship witnessed the fury of the
tsunami, which consumed many small villages and inflicted untold miseries
to human, property and cattle. Nagapattinam district consists of many
villages.
Bethany Fellowship observed that many houses and buildings of the
villagers, which were constructed within the two kilometers from the
sea were brought to the ground, beyond 2 kilometers the buildings
were found with cracks. Rev, Dr. Samuel Innocent and Rev. Jenson Jebaraj
from Bethany Fellowship Erode have been busy with relief operations
for more than 30 days in partnership with lighthouse international
ministries (UK).

Tharangam
Padi |
| This
village lies very close to the sea in Nagapattinam. It is one
of the fishing ground. The fishermen catch fish and hand it
over to their wives who take them to the market to sell. The
children of these parents remain uneducated because their parents
do not encourage them to study, instead of studying they teach
them the fishing techniques. On the tsunami day the loss to
human lives, houses and cattles were colossal. The waves played
havoc with the back water and harbour. Number of people were
missing from this village. |
|
Out of 2,000 people
reported missing from this village, nearly 500 were killed. Rev.Dr.
Samuel Innocent and Rev. Jenson Jebaraj visited the village and spoke
to the affected people. The local pastor John Manicham helped us in
identifying the families.
Three times Bethany Fellowship visited this villages and distributed
stoves, bed sheets, bags & groceries etc. Among these affected
people by the tsunami some were Bethany Fellowship believers. They
groaned that their Houses, clothes, money and most of the belongings
were lost in the deluge. Bethany Fellowship has helped them to receive
most of these things.
